Birthday Gift Thank You Card Etiquette

What is the proper etiquette for Thank You Cards regarding…?

Most assuredly I understand that when receiving a gift for your birthday a Thank You card is in order. But what about when co-workers all sign a separate Birthday Card with their wishes and no gift is attached? Would I need to put a Thank You card up on the Bulletin Board to say Thank you for signing my Birthday Card? I’m not sure about what is proper in this case.
