Frosty, Rudolf The Reindeer, Santa And Baby Jesus: The A Listers Of Christmas By Increasing Significance

The Christmas season has several characters that basically make up the entire seasons fanfare. Without these characters, I tend to think that without these characters, Christmas would have an entirely different meaning. We are not talking James Bond, ET, Indiana Jones or even Rambo. These are all TV superstars in their own right but Christmas would still go on in a splendid manner even if the TV was switched off. Most of us are tempted to think that all this is pointing to the queen especially due to the fact that a good number of us love listening to her highlights of the year speech on TV. The characters we are talking about happen to be more magical than this. These heavy hitters are headed by the little Baby Jesus or Jesus Christ also known as Jesus of Nazareth. This figure is indeed central in the Christian faith as well as in Islam where HE is considered to be one of their prophets. The story of nativity has it that Jesus was born of a carpenter and the Virgin Mary in city known as Bethlehem. Due to the prevailing shortage of some decent accommodation back then, Jesus’ parents couldn’t secure a hotel room and as such, he was born in a manger.

Historians are of the opinion that at this point in history, there was no advance booking systems in place. The three wise men who were also referred to as the magi or the three kings from the east were the first to visit baby Jesus. These are the men who are credited with being the fathers of the gift giving tradition associated with Christmas as they brought with them gifts for Baby Jesus which included Frankincense, gold and myrrh. The second in line of the Christmas A listers is Santa. He is also known as Father Christmas. He is a portly individual who is also quite jolly. He is always in a red outfit that spots white trimmings and some black leather boots. He brings Christmas gifts to people during Christmas. He is actually related to American culture where he had his origins in the early Christian times. He is also linked to early Dutch folklore.

Rudolf the reindeer is next in line. He has a red nose and is the favorite reindeer of Santa who are charged with pulling his sledge across the night sky. There are eight other reindeers that have the capacity to fly who assist Rudolf and Santa in the gift giving process. This Christmas character is absolutely fictional a fact that could prove crushing to kids who haven’t reached a certain age to discover for themselves that he doesn’t really exist. Frosty is the last of the Christmas A listers. He is a snowman that haves fun with kids and adults alike during Christmas. He has been featured severally on wrapping papers and Christmas cards. There is even a song written by Walter Rollins and Steve Nelson in his honour and a TV special way back in 1969.
