Apply For Scholarships Over Winter Break As A Gift To Yourself

The holiday countdown is on. It’s a time also when many students enjoy time off during the winter break – and when scholarships for the coming semesters are due. There are many opportunities to be found online by searching for college for free. When it comes to filing scholarship applications, deadlines are important. Following is a list of scholarships that are coming due this month:

Dec. 1: Elks National Foundation, scholarships of $1000 to $15,000 for high school seniors. Glamour magazine, $5,000 cash prizes in a 2011 Top 10 College Women contest for college and university juniors. American Association of Physics Teachers, $2,000 in cash stipends as part of what’s known as Barbara Lotze Scholarships for Future Teachers.

Dec. 2-10: The American Occupational Therapy Foundation offers its members financial needs and merit-based Edith Weingarten Scholarships of $1,000 (Dec. 2). The Colvin Scholarship Foundation and Certified Angus Beef offer $15,000 in scholarships to college and university juniors and seniors pursing beef industry-related studies, including food, meat or animal science, marketing, business, journalism or communications (Dec. 3). The American Psychology Association of Graduate Studies Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs Grant Program offers grants of $1,000 to members enrolled in graduate programs (Dec. 4).

Dec. 6-14: Elie Weisel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest, $500 to $5,000 for full-time juniors and seniors who are participating in college and university undergraduate studies (Dec. 6). Lafango Show off Your School Photography Contest, $250 scholarships (Dec. 12). Freedom Forum-NCAA Sports Journalism Scholarships, $3,000 for undergraduate students (Dec. 12).

Dec. 15: Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting-Hispanic Scholarship Fund Association,$1,500 to $10,000 scholarships for students who are participating in graduate and undergraduate studies in accounting, management, finance, business administration, economics or a similar field. Hispanic Scholarship Fund General Scholarships, $1,000 to $5,000 for Hispanic, or Latino, students. Budweiser World Cup Scholarships, $2,500 for Hispanic, or Latino, students.

Dec. 16-30: Symantec, Research Labs Graduate Fellowships covering full graduate school tuition and fees for qualifying students who are in master of science degree and PhD programs (Dec. 18). Arizona City/County Management Association, $2,000 Marvin A. Andrews Scholarships/Internships as well as Charles A. Esser Memorial Scholarships for graduate students in the state who are studying public administration and planning careers in local government (Dec. 27). Stay Fit, Ltd., $5,000 Healthy Lifestyle Scholarships for high school seniors and college and university students under the age of 25 who are in their first year of studies (Dec. 30). There are many programs like these popping up all year, keep searching for free college classes and when you find the ones that will benefit you, apply to them as early as you can.

Dec. 31: Air & Waste Management Association Golden West Section, up to $3,500 in scholarships for students who are participating in graduate and undergraduate studies in water resources, engineering, environmental or atmospheric science, waste management and similar areas. Gen and Kelly Tanabe Scholarship Program, $1,000 scholarships. All-Ink.com, $5,000 scholarships for high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate college and university students.

College and university studies can be a lot more affordable with help from scholarships. Because scholarships and grants don’t have to be repaid, they can also reduce the amount of debt that students must pay. Taking time to work on that investment by searching for scholarship for college and tending to scholarship applications during the winter break might even improve that investment.
